Major progress has been made in the Royal Navy’s Type 31 frigate programme, with two important milestones achieved at the Rosyth shipyard in Scotland—delivered by SMC member, Babcock.

HMS Active, the second vessel in the class, has been successfully rolled out of the assembly hall, marking the completion of its main construction phase. At the same time, construction has officially begun on HMS Bulldog, with the first steel cut for the fourth ship in the programme.

The Type 31 programme continues to deliver significant economic benefits, supporting 2500 high-skilled jobs within the programme and across the UK supply chain.

As British-designed and built vessels, the Type 31 frigates will form a key part of the Royal Navy’s future fleet—supporting a range of operations from defence engagement and intelligence gathering to humanitarian missions.
