IStructE - Engineering above the tracks
24th September 2026 2:00 pm
This webinar introduces the fundamentals of building isolation and its role in mitigating structure-borne vibration and ground-borne noise in modern buildings. Attendees will learn how resilient isolation systems can be integrated into structural designs to improve occupant comfort while addressing challenging vibration environments.
The session will feature two building isolation case studies that demonstrate different design approaches and performance objectives. The first project highlights a recently completed development in Central London constructed directly above active Network Rail and Docklands Light Railway (DLR) lines, requiring a carefully engineered isolation solution to protect the building from rail-induced vibration. The second case study showcases a unique application of building isolation, illustrating how vibration mitigation systems can be successfully incorporated into complex structural projects.
Through these real-world examples, attendees will gain practical insight into system selection, structural integration, construction considerations, and lessons learned from the design and implementation of building isolation systems.
