ICE - Christ the Word Catholic School

20th October 2022 6:00 pm

Christ the Word Catholic School is a purpose-built 3-16 school in Rhyl which was designed to accommodate 420 full-time pupils aged 3-11 and 500 full-time pupils aged 11-16. It also accommodates 60 part-time pupils in addition to hosting a successful pre-school provision.

The new ‘all-through’ approach was developed to replace the former Ysgol Mair Primary School and Blessed Edward Jones Catholic High School provision and this ensured that a unified approach was delivered for the new school.

The new build was delivered on a very constrained site, with both schools remaining fully operational throughout the build. The school, which is part of the Diocese of Wrexham provision, opened its doors to pupils in September 2019. The facilities at the school are modern and fit for 21st-century learning, including a sports hall, drama studio, all-weather pitch and chapel.

The first purpose-built ‘all-through’ school in Denbighshire, a new 920 pupil Catholic School on the live site of the existing primary school (Ysgol Mair Catholic Primary School) and existing secondary school (Blessed Edward Jones Catholic High School). The site itself was extremely constrained with both existing buildings occupying one site with external space in-between.

This event is co-badged with the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
