Guidelines on Corrosion Management & Asset Integrity for Wind Turbine Infrastructure
The offshore wind sector has grown significantly in recent years, providing an important renewable energy resource for many national grids. However, the marine environment is a harsh environment, and these valuable offshore assets are exposed to a variety of degradation mechanisms. Hence, effective corrosion and asset integrity management is required to ensure safe, reliable and profitable operation throughout the design life.
The Energy Institute recognised that there was both a wealth of knowledge and experience from offshore oil and gas facilities as well as experience from existing offshore wind which provide extensive ‘lessons learned’ that should be captured for future design as well as improved ongoing operation. Hence, this document has been released with the intention of providing guidance for the offshore wind industry in order to facilitate good practice across the industry based on existing experience.
