IET -Mass Production to Mass Customisation

In the early 20th century, mass production with standardisation made processes efficient and products affordable. However, modern computer-controlled manufacturing equipment can deliver individuality again.

Professor Paulo Jorge Da Silva Bartolo will introduce the concept, opportunities and implications of mass customisation. Dr Stuart Christie, from Wayland Additive, will explain how the Wayland electron beam technology can be used for personalised, high-strength medical implants; Dr Simeon Gill from the University of Manchester will address the fashion industry and the scanning software to get the right fit.
