IMechE - Railway Division Lunchtime Webinars - Revolution Very Light Rail
26th January 2022 1:00 pm
IMechE Railway Division chair James Collinson hosts January’s lunchtime webinar in our series focusing on the latest developments in railway engineering.
Revolution Very Light Rail is an ambitious project to create a new type of low cost passenger rail vehicle.
Tim Burleigh of consortium member Eversholt Rail will explain how the use of innovative technology enables the production of an affordable vehicle which will facilitate growth of the UK railway system, particularly through line extensions and re-openings.
With the prototype 18m long, 56 seater railcar having been launched by Eversholt and Transport Design International in October 2021, testing is now underway at Ironbridge.
Batteries traction power for rail vehicles is another technology which is rapidly developing, with many projects underway for both passenger and freight applications. Either for purely electric trains, or as part of a hybrid drivetrain, batteries have will play a major role in the push to decarbonise rail transport.
Tom Scott of Porterbrook will discuss recent progress and future potential for battery powered trains, as a preview of IMechE Railway Division’s upcoming “Batteries Included” seminar.
