IStructE - Re-use and change of the David Stow Building at Jordanhill

18th January 2022 6:45 pm

As part of the Jordanhill Park development by Cala Homes (West) Ltd., the Category B Listed David Stow Building is being repurposed from the former teacher training school to modern residential apartments, whilst retaining the character and appearance of the existing building which was completed in 1917.

Throughout the project Goodson Associates have been involved in leading the conservation design, and working with Cala to repair, refurbish, and renovate the existing building – adapting the building for 21st Century living, and giving the existing building a new purpose.

However, as with any refurbishment projects engineering challenges have been encountered, with innovative and economical structural solutions undertaken to address the challenges posed by a 100-year old existing building.
