IStructE - Research on structural robustness design of tall concrete buildings

It is widely recognised that in order to design and construct resilient buildings and infrastructure, able to withstand and recover from extreme events, structural robustness needs to be considered to limit the extent of damage or even progressive collapse after local failure of some of its structural members.
Design codes in Europe, America and Asia adopt different methods for robustness design including the Alternative Load Path (ALP) method in which a minimum level of robustness is verified using the notional column removal concept.
