IES - The MacQuorn Rankine Lecture - the latest developments in compressors
12th October 2021 6:30 pm
Joint Meeting with IMechE & University of Glasgow
NB - We are running this as an on-line event only
Synopsis:
The past phase-out of CFC and HCFC refrigerants as well as the currently proposed phase-out of HFC refrigerants, combined with has rapidly increased the development of new concepts for the HVAC&R industry. This lecture will look at the very latest developments with applications in refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pumping. In particular, research on liquid-flooded compression and refrigerant vapor-injected compression has identified the potential to significantly increase the operating range of compressors and improve their performance.
Prof. Eckhard A. Groll is the current William E. and Florence E. Perry Head of Mechanical Engineering, and Reilly Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University, Indiana, USA. He received his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the University of the Ruhr in Bochum, Germany, in 1989 and a Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from the Leibniz University of Hannover, Germany, in 1994.
Prof. Groll has received numerous awards for his research and teaching excellence including most notably the 2018 J&E Hall International Gold Medal in Refrigeration by the Institute of Refrigeration and being made an Honorary Fellow of IES., J&E Hall International Gold Medal in Refrigeration by the Institute of Refrigeration and the 2017 Peter Ritter von Rittinger International Heat Pump Award by the IEA Heat Pump Centre. In addition, he was inducted into Purdue’s Book of Great Teachers in 2008.
