ICE - Consultation on coal tip safety in Wales, webinar
21st June 2021 1:00 pm
This important meeting launches a major engineering consultation into the safety of coal tips in Wales.
Wales’ long history in coal mining and associated industrial relics has meant tip safety requires continuing assessment. The presentation will begin with a high-level introduction by the Welsh Government’s Coal Tip Safety Task Force followed by a history of tipping in Wales, including the Aberfan disaster (1966) and resulting Tribunal Report. The Welsh Government will then provide an overview and update on the work of the Coal Tip Safety Task Force, established by the First Minister in response to the Tylorstown landslip in February 2020.
In May 2021, The Law Commission’s consultation paper on the reform of the law relating to coal tip safety in Wales will be published. A three-month consultation period will follow. The project team will present their provisional proposals for a new regulatory framework. They will also highlight the consultation questions contained in the paper and invite responses
