Engineers Ireland Sustainability Grand Tour: Optimising Sustainability through reallocation of road space
20th January 2021 7:00 pm
This event is will launch the ‘Sustainability Grand Tour’, an online CPD seminar series organised by a number of Regions and Sectors within Engineers Ireland. This session will examine the reallocation of road space for pedestrians and cyclists during 2020.
Description Optimising Sustainability through reallocation of road space
Part 1 of the Sustainability Grand Tour series will focus on highlighting some recent projects rolled out in 2020 to provide a better reallocation of road space for pedestrians, and cyclists. Barry Transportation worked with Dún Laoghaire Rathdown in the delivery of several reallocation schemes within the county.
Rory Collins and Ben Errity will present the schemes that were carried out in Blackrock, Dundrum and Dalkey Villages, and discuss the design process and construction details that were used. Sean McGrath will present guidance, lessons learned and experience of delivery from the local authority perspective.
The initiative is hoped to encourage sustainable modes, both during and post-Covid restrictions, and to ensure meaningful investment of the €360m pledged per year for Walking and Cycling projects, in a sustainable manner, while encouraging small to medium sized investment projects to be undertaken nationally, to help to keep SME’s in business and spread funding.
