Synopsis: The Speaker will describe the history of railways in the Auckland area from their inception in the 19th century to the present day resurgence with the construction of the new cross-city link. The talk will outline the technical track standards used in the design of the route and the obstacles encountered, together with the interfaces with new rolling stock, electrification and signalling systems.
